Description

About Fish Mox 250mg

Fish Mox 250mg is an aquarium antibiotic containing Amoxicillin 250 mg in each capsule. Amoxicillin is one of the most popular broad-spectrum antibiotics in the fishkeeping hobby, used to help manage common gram-positive and some gram-negative bacterial conditions in ornamental fish.

Each factory-sealed bottle contains 100 capsules, giving fish keepers enough for a full treatment course — and for maintaining larger tanks, multiple aquariums, or a well-stocked fish-room first-aid kit. Suitable for use in both freshwater and saltwater systems (always confirm on the label).

Commonly used by fish keepers for

  • Fin and tail rot (frayed, ragged, or receding fins)
  • Mouth rot and body sores or ulcers
  • Bacterial conditions linked to dropsy and red pest
  • General gram-positive and some gram-negative bacterial infections

Key benefits

  • Broad-spectrum aquarium antibiotic trusted by fish keepers for decades
  • Easy water-column dosing — no injections or medicated food needed
  • Works in freshwater and saltwater aquariums
  • Factory-sealed, clearly labeled, genuine product

How to use in your aquarium

  1. Remove activated carbon from your filter before treating — carbon absorbs medication and stops it working.
  2. Follow the label directions. The typical directions for this type of aquarium antibiotic are one capsule per 10 gallons of water, repeated every 24 hours.
  3. A partial water change (about 25%) between doses is recommended.
  4. Continue the full course as directed on the label (typically 5–10 days). Stopping early can let the problem return.
  5. When treatment is finished, do a water change and return fresh activated carbon to the filter to remove residual medication.

Tip: whenever possible, treat sick fish in a separate hospital/quarantine tank. It protects your main tank’s biological filter and lets you dose accurately.

Storage & handling

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, with the cap tightly closed. Do not use past the expiration date printed on the bottle.

Frequently asked questions

What is Fish Mox 250mg used for?

Fish Mox 250mg is used by aquarium hobbyists to manage common bacterial conditions in ornamental fish, such as fin and tail rot, mouth rot and body sores or ulcers, bacterial conditions linked to dropsy and red pest. It contains Amoxicillin 250 mg per capsule.

How do I dose Fish Mox 250mg?

Typical label directions for this type of product are one capsule per 10 gallons of aquarium water every 24 hours, with a partial water change between doses, for the number of days stated on the label. Always follow the directions printed on your bottle.

Will treatment affect my biological filter or tank mates?

Antibiotics can disrupt the beneficial bacteria in your biological filter, so monitor ammonia and nitrite during and after treatment. Whenever possible, treat in a separate hospital tank. Remove activated carbon during treatment, and check the label before treating tanks with invertebrates or live plants.

Should I choose Fish Mox 250mg or Fish Mox 500mg?

The 250 mg strength is the standard choice for most home aquariums. The 500 mg (forte) strength is preferred by keepers dosing larger tanks or multiple systems, since fewer capsules are needed per dose. Both follow their own label directions.

Is this product for human use?

No. This product is sold strictly for use in ornamental fish kept in aquariums (or ornamental/aviary birds where stated). It is not for human use and not for animals intended for food.

How fast will my order ship?

Most orders are processed within 1–2 business days and arrive within 2–5 business days of shipping, with a tracking link emailed to you. Unopened, unused items in original packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery — see Shipping & Returns.

Is “FishMox” the same as Fish Mox?

Yes — FishMox, Fish-Mox and Fish Mox all refer to the same type of product: amoxicillin capsules packaged for ornamental aquarium fish. This listing is the 250 mg strength with 100 factory-sealed capsules per bottle. If you need the stronger 500 mg version (often called Fish Mox Forte), see Fish Mox 500mg — 100 count.
